In the shadow of our questioning, doubt, and human frailty, Jesus’ call resonates, urging us to don the mantle of prophecy. As disciples, often faltering, we are summoned to discern the signs of our times and stand as soothing balms within a troubled world. Neil de Grasse Tyson’s words echo through the annals of science, proclaiming that our solidarity is not a matter of choice—it is our inherent reality. Through the bonds of biology, chemistry, and atomic connection, we are intertwined with one another, the earth, and the vast universe. This unbreakable unity is not only a scientific truth but also a testament to the salvific work of a loving Savior and a guiding Holy Spirit. Our call to solidarity is indeed divine in nature, inviting us to echo the very essence of the Divine in our actions.
The Prophetic Way of Change
In the face of systems that declare change unattainable, that gravity prevails, and that religion is but a pacifier, Jesus beckons us toward an alternate path—the prophetic path. He who worked to overturn and conquer the world’s systems calls us to do the same. Despite the systems’ declarations, it is within our power to come together, wield our gifts, and bring peace, end gun violence, and dismantle the walls of division. The prophetic way stands as a testament to hope, to a transformative power that goes beyond the limits society imposes upon us. Solidarity and compassion, in this light, become the very embodiment of love in action.
A Spirituality of Solidarity
At the core of our Christian spirituality lies the pillar of solidarity—a belief in a God who, in the person of Jesus, walked among us, affirming our shared human dignity. This revelation demands that we view every fellow human as a mirror of our own value, no more or less significant.
